Nineteenth Century Solutions

Streetsblog notes the North Carolina congressman who is bravely speaking out against delusional Luddites righteously astride their velocipedes and their draisines and what have you. The patriot has perfect timing: On Wednesday in particular, New Yorkers surely regarded these preposterous penny farthings as but a barnacle on the dinghy of the daily commute. At left: Mr. and the Lady BIB en route to midtown.

The Huffy Windsprint: Spirited Away

The Huffy Windsprint -- transport of choice for BIB and veteran of the 5th-and-Atlantic combat zone -- has finally been reassigned to parts unknown. In the wee small hours of Sunday morning, an unidentified person or persons broke the lock and relocated the 'Sprinter from our stoop. (I know of one other red-and-black Windsprint in Park Slope, but my steed has a distinctive seat marked 'General'.) Fare thee well, beloved Huffy. Thanks for helping me explore the nabe. Best $30 I have ever spent.

450pm: 5th and Atlantic

The downed Huffy pictured moments after I was driven into. This was on a pedestrian crossing just outside the Atlantic Centre. Everyone concerned came away without injury.
