From around 4am this morning outside the Brooklyn Library, Carnival celebrants took party in J'Ouvert. From the WIADCA guide to Carnival: "J'Ouvert, or jour ouvert in French, meaning daybreak, began in Trinidad in 1937. The 2006 carnival
Labour Day marks the return of one of our favorite Brooklyn events: the West Indian American Day Carnival. The theme for this year is "Celebrate Culture, Embrace Diversity." The parade runs down Eastern Parkway; Mayor Bloomberg is to cut a ribbon at 11am at Utica Avenue to start the party.Labels: block party, Brooklyn, Eastern Parkway, Labor day, West Indian Carnival
