Southpoint, looking north on Roosevelt Island
Artist Thom Sokoloski will be putting an arrangement of 100 19th Century tents on Roosevelt Island this October. 'The Encampment' will be open to the public from 7pm to 1am each night.
Sokoloski is looking for creative collaborators and tent patrons for the work.
"For a contribution of $250, your name, family or organization will be visibly attached to a tent and listed in the official souvenir program and website. In return you will also receive a curio of an image of The Encampment printed on the tent canvas. And of course, if you come to see The Encampment, you will be cordially invited to join us for some opening night cheer!"
It will definitely be worth shelling out two bucks for the cable car ride over the river.
October 5-7, 2007, 7pm to 1am nightly on Southpoint, Roosevelt Island.
Thanks to Curbed for the tip.Labels: art, East River, Public Information, public space, Roosevelt Island, Southpoint, Tents, Thom Sokoloski

Drowning by grain. Mutilation by muck-spreader. Burned alive by haystack. Growing up in rural England we heard these sorts of cautionary tales from our parents, but what really saved us from agri-tragedy were the epics produced by the Central Office of Information Stay safe in the countryside this holiday weekend. Here is part II of Apaches if you can handle it. Tune in tomorrow for the disturbing Part III season finale.
