Desktop Day: Dumbo Double

Due to an out-of-towner, desktop day is late this week. But it did give us a chance to get down to the Dumbo Art Under the Bridge Festival for you. Instructions Left-click on the image first to open up the large version. Windows PC: Right-click on the large image and select 'set as desktop background'. You can also right-click and 'save as', then use your desktop properties settings to add the file you just saved and format it how you prefer. There's more info on customising your PC desktop here.

Domino Sugar Factory Landmarked

The brick buildings, including that chimney stack, are now safe. The neon sign is not included in the landmarking, but the developer is "looking at ways to save it" reports AMNY today.

Roosevelt Island Art: Call for Collaborators and Tent Patrons

Southpoint, looking north on Roosevelt Island Artist Thom Sokoloski will be putting an arrangement of 100 19th Century tents on Roosevelt Island this October. 'The Encampment' will be open to the public from 7pm to 1am each night. Sokoloski is looking for creative collaborators and tent patrons for the work. "For a contribution of $250, your name, family or organization will be visibly attached to a tent and listed in the official souvenir program and website. In return you will also receive a curio of an image of The Encampment printed on the tent canvas. And of course, if you come to see The Encampment, you will be cordially invited to join us for some opening night cheer!" It will definitely be worth shelling out two bucks for the cable car ride over the river. October 5-7, 2007, 7pm to 1am nightly on Southpoint, Roosevelt Island. Thanks to Curbed for the tip.
